About Department:

The department started since the 1998-99 at B.A. level. Music subject is commenced in academic year 1998-99 on general & special level. The department provides quality education & realizes it’s responsibilities towards society. The courses taught in Music provide the base for national integration and cultural background. Faculty members of the department provide guidance to students. Regular visits of the experts according to musical competitions to guide the students. Department results are near to 100% every year.

Past students of this department are doing the job in music as Professor in college, Teacher in school, Conduct private music coaching, Working as professionals such as singers, & other freelancer in music industry.

Department of Music has actively engaged in various activities with the help of students representatives in the following Programmes:-

  • Mahilaratna Pushpatai Hiray State Level Inter – Collegiate singing competition.
  • Annual Social Gathering

Title of the Practice: Awareness of Music through Mahilaratna Pushpatai Hiray State Level Inter-Collegiate Singing Competition

The Objectives:

  • 1) To present and promote Indian classical music, Semi-Classical music as well as other musical forms.
  • 2) To bring out the hidden talent among girl students from rural areas
  • 3) The noble aim is to bring about unity through diversity
  • 4) To develop an artistic attitude amongst the contestants
  • 5) To provide platform to perform music in all its forms
  • The Context:-

    The city of Malegaon lies on the convergence of Mousam and Girna rivers. It is densely populated with 80% Muslim population, mostly power loom workers and weavers .The influx of students is from the rural villages around Malegaon and also from the city of Malegaon. Today education aims at the holistic development of the students and music can work wonders to bring peace in today’s stressful life. It allows one to escape from the pressure of everyday life and still remain connected through various life experiences. The sole aim of introducing music for girl students at our college was to give an opportunity to the hidden talent among the girl students in and around Malegaon. Being a women’s college parents are confident that their ward is in safe hands .The response received for the undergraduate course gave an impetus to start PG course in classical Music.

    The Practice:

    The college has been organizing Mahilaratna Pushpatai Hiray state level Inter- Collegiate singing competition since the year 2019-20. The college has:

  • 1. Made it easy for students with or without formal music background to participate in this music competition. The competition has been categorized into six different singing genres such as North Indian music, Semi Classical music, Indian Light Music, Western Light Music, Indian group song and Western group song.
  • 2. Given sufficient time to the students to perform to their satisfaction.
  • 3. Accompanists and instruments, arranged by the music department.
  • 4. A suitable auditorium and sound system, arranged by the department.
  • 5. The competition is judged by experts in the field of music and singing.
  • 6. The winners are felicitated with attractive prizes in the form of cash and certificate.
  • Evidence of success:

  • 1. The students who participated in the competition experienced a boost to their morale.
  • 2. Students from rural areas of Malegaon and other rural areas of Maharashtra received prizes in various categories.
  • 3. Students got motivated and inspired by the performance.
  • 4. The competition created a feeling of oneness through music.
  • 5. The participants from various parts of Maharashtra interacted with each other and
  • a bond over music was created.
  • 6. Participation of students from the remotest parts of Maharashtra and metros like Mumbai and Pune speaks for its success.
  • Problems encountered:

  • 1. Some of the participating students found it difficult to take formal education in the field of music as a subject as resources are not available in their college .
  • 2. Lack of formal education in music despite of natural flair for music led to students competing on the basis of superficial knowledge.
  • Resources required:

  • 1. We need sound system of our own.
  • Resources provided by the college:-

  • 1. Our management and S P Pune University provided us with a financial aid of Rs.3.50 lakhs.
  • 2. The instruments and accompanists were also provided by the Management.
  • 3. The Management also helped us in finalizing the Guests and the Judges.

  • 1. Singing competition can help students understand music as an art in its true sense.
  • 2. Music has the power to touch our souls and transform human beings into better individuals.
  • 3. Music has a social significance as different genres of Music create an impact at different levels on the human mind and the soul.
